Bun Revolution review
September 23, 2017

The burger has become one of the most universal foods in the history of humanity. It is known in virtually every culture and has been deconstructed in every exhaustible way. Yet, Bun Revolution—apt to its name—strives to provide the Atenean with the impossible: a new kind of burger.

Taste

To start with: The Washington. Nominated as the classic of the menu, it is made with cheese, mushroom, and bacon. There is a balance of savoury flavours that make the combination timeless. Meanwhile, The Kennedy was created to target the sweet tooth of the Filipino. The patty is topped with sharp barbecue sauce and tangy, caramelized onions. For a more colourful selection, Bun Revolution offers what the owners lovingly dub as “the rogue burger,” or what their menu labels as The Lincoln. This burger is flavoured with Sriracha mayonnaise that is piquant and immediately gives way to the shocking zest of the pineapples added to the burger.

What makes a Bun Revolution meal are the sides that go delectably well with the burgers. The onion rings are made with a special recipe that includes barbecue sauce for sweetness. The wedges are filling and packed with flavour, salty enough to pair with a tender burger. The fries can come in three different spices: sour cream, barbecue, and cheese. Cut thinner than the wedges and more covered in spices, the fries offer a scrumptious alternative.

Concept

In uniform with their American aesthetic and concept, every burger on the menu is named after a revolutionary American president. Every burger patty is a revolutionary (at least, for JSEC standards so far) thin rectangular slice, like sliders.

Value for money

What is truly revolutionary about Bun Revolution is its ability to pack quantity and quality into affordable prices. Every meal is kind to the student wallet, but does not sacrifice flavour in the process. A solo burger is tagged at Php 60 and an upgrade to a combo is Php 90. A double burger is Php 110 and a double combo is priced at Php 140. The sides by themselves are Php 60 each. For cheap, but nonetheless delicious food, Bun Revolution shines through.

Final verdict

For the Atenean on a budget, Bun Revolution comes as a savior. Every item on the menu is surprisingly cheap, but doesn’t sacrifice flavour in the process. Bun Revolution has transformed burgers for Ateneans.
