Eggette It review

Located on the second floor of Matteo Ricci Hall, Eggette It offers egg waffle wraps that are freshly made with waffle irons bought from Hong Kong. They offer classic flavors like banana-peanut butter and chicken pesto, as well as original combinations that stand up to the distinct flavor of their eggettes.

Taste

The Cookies & Cream is hard to wrap one’s head around at first. But the near-syrupy texture and flavor of the cream, along with the cookies’ mild sweetness that complement the waffle itself, will be picked up in succeeding bites. For the Sausage Nori, the nori flakes’ smooth saltiness go well with the spiciness of the sausage, while the Japanese mayo’s tanginess cuts through all the flavors. Surprisingly, the waffle, with its thin, crispy crust and pillowy, slightly creamy body, is still the star of the show even with all these robust ingredients.

Concept

The stall owners came up with the idea for this stall after multiple trips to Hong Kong where their parents are based. They have expressed that they do not have a strict theme unlike most other JSEC stalls, and are really only limited by the edges and crevices of their eggettes.

Value for money

The classic flavors are worth Php 75-85, while gourmet flavors will cost you Php 110-120. You’ll have to wait for a few minutes, which doesn’t make it the best thing to get if you’re in a rush, but you will be rewarded with a straight-from-the-iron eggette you can smell from either stairway. It is a substantial snack to get you through the day until your next meal.

Final verdict

Eggette It is not constrained by a running theme and has the freedom to experiment more with both sweet and savory permutations. The stall can be more daring with its menu, given the strong base flavor of their Hong Kong-inspired treat.

Rating: 3.5/5
