Halikaroti review

The to-go meal is an essential staple for the busy college student: an effortless, tasty snack one can easily grab in between classes. In the past, JSEC’s versions of it have varied from classic sandwiches to sauce-filled chicken bites. This year, Halikaroti follows this tradition with their tasty roti bread meals.

Taste

The Naughty Roti is Halikaroti’s bestseller, and rightly so. A mouthwatering combination of hard-boiled eggs, cheese, condensed milk, onions, and bacon come together in the stall’s version of a breakfast wrap. The condensed milk has just the right consistency of creaminess and blends well with the onions and cheese.

Next, the Charoti pays homage to its Indian roots with its chicken curry and helpful servings of sliced cabbages and carrots wrapped in roti bread. The curry sauce has a little kick to it without being overpowering, and the chicken is delightfully tender.

If you want to try something different, the BB Roti has the same crisp vegetables as the previous meal, but this time paired with Korean beef bulgogi. This bulgogi wrap is drier than the two previous ones so if you’re looking for something less saucy, this is the meal for you. Nonetheless, the beef topped with sesame seeds and mung bean sprouts is sweet and easy to chew.

Concept

Roti is a flatbread that originated from India and is a favorite in South Asian countries. Halikaroti came from the owners’ collective love for roti bread and their desire to bring something different to JSEC. The idea was to pair well-loved dishes from different cuisines with warm wraps of roti: Egg salad, chicken curry, and beef bulgogi. The stall has successfully achieved this fresh concept with their delicious line-up.

Value for Money

With Php 40, you can get yourself a basic roti dessert wrap filled with condensed milk. You can even order a plain piece of roti and customize it with different toppings. The heavier wraps start at Php 90 and the priciest wrap costs Php 105. It’s about the same price as a JSEC rice meal, so if you’re craving for a non-rice meal that’s equally satisfying, Halikaroti is a good option.

Final Verdict

Halikaroti is a game changer when it comes to eating on-the-go. With flavorsome fillings and a good base that can even be eaten on its own, the roti wraps can take you from breakfast to early dinner and everything in between.
