Delectable delights dwell on the second floor of the Matteo Ricci Study Hall as Saturday Bite Live’s (SBL) stall brings New York style sandwiches in three options: Cheese, pork, and chicken.
Taste
Looking for a not-so-typical grilled cheese sandwich? Creamy cheddar and mozzarella are rolled into one in the Brooklyn Truffle Grilled Cheese. This dish oozes with a medley of molten cheese which contributes to the pleasingly silky texture of the sandwich. Its best quality is the truffle oil that leaves an earthy aftertaste in its wake. If you’re looking for a sandwich that goes above and beyond the average grilled cheese, this is the best choice for you.
On the other hand, if you’re craving for a meat-based meal, SBL has the Queens Pulled Pork sandwich. The homemade barbeque sauce provides a sweet and savory flavor that adds a perfect touch to the tender pulled pork. Despite the promising flavor, it was a bit troublesome to eat. The heaviness of the pulled pork causes the sandwich to crumble every few bites.
The Manhattan Chicken Caesar sandwich is the choice for chicken-lovers. This is the only sandwich that has lettuce and this complements the chicken by providing a fresher taste. The amalgam of smokey and lemony flavors from the caesar sauce elevates the juiciness of the chicken. Eating this is like an adventure of flavors, resulting from the satisfying combination of the chicken, lettuce, and dressing.
Concept
Saturday Bite Live’s ambiance is akin to an adventure into the boroughs of New York, a city known, among other things, for its iconic sandwiches. The Brooklyn Truffle Grilled Cheese, for instance, is inspired by Brooklyn and their variety of cheeses. On the other hand, Queens is known for their meat shops, which is the main inspiration for SBL’s pulled pork sandwich. Meanwhile, the Manhattan Chicken Caesar encapsulates Manhattan’s cosmopolitan lifestyle through the culmination of its various flavors.
Value for Money
The stall’s prices are reasonable, considering the taste and portion size of each meal. For a maximum of Php 95, you get to enjoy any of the three sandwiches. However, you get the most out of what you pay for with SBL’s combo meal, which offers a side of either fries or onion rings, and water for an additional Php 30.
Final Verdict
SBL fulfills its promise of bringing the taste of New York closer to the Atenean. For someone who is always on-the-go, picking any of these three mouth-watering choices can be as exciting as choosing a new adventure for the day.
