This is Vantage POINT: A monthly moodboard for things that have been on our minds as of late, topics both fresh and familiar. We point you towards what to watch out for and what we think you should be enjoying right now. And if whatever we love becomes whatever you love (at least a little bit), then we’ve done our jobs.
It may be midterms season, but it’s still important to relax and unwind every so often. This October, Vantage brings you a few TV, film, and music recommendations to help you get through the month.

New episodes every week
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
In this new mystery-comedy television series, Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short star as three neighbors brought together by their common obsession with true crime. A death in their building leads the unlikely trio to start their own investigation—and a podcast detailing their quest for the truth.
Packed with praiseworthy performances from its star-studded cast, Only Murders in the Building brims with wit and charm. As a fan of both crime and comedy, this show seems like it was made for me. Because I don’t always have the time to binge-watch a whole show, I appreciate that I get to watch a new episode of this series every week! – Daniela

Release: October 15
Coming out of a five-year hiatus, Adele is finally releasing new music this month! The singer-songwriter recently took to social media to share a teaser of her upcoming single Easy on Me. Given the time that has elapsed since Adele’s last release, I’m interested in seeing how she has evolved as an artist, as well as how fans react to this new song.
Though it hasn’t been officially announced, this single will mostly likely be followed by an album, which is something I’m definitely looking forward to. – Daniela

Last Night in Soho (2021)
Release: October 29
Director Edgar Wright’s latest psychological horror thriller follows the story of Eloise, a young fashion designer, as she finds herself haunted by visions featuring an aspiring singer from the ‘60s. Although this entices Eloise at first, it’s hinted that there’s something uglier behind the glitz and glamor of these enigmatic dreams.
I was initially piqued by the promise of another horror film starring Anya Taylor-Joy, whom I’ve been a fan of since The Witch (2015). The gorgeous cinematography apparent in the trailer and the ‘60’s-inspired soundtrack intrigued me even more. If you’re looking for something new to watch for Halloween, then Last Night in Soho might be for you! – Ann

Just Piano by FKJ
Available on Spotify and Youtube
In partnership with the Calm app, FKJ released an album featuring soothing piano instrumentals last August. This new release might be a slight divergence from his jazzier and more playful albums such as Time for a Change (2013) and French Kiwi Juice (2017), but that doesn’t mean it’s lost his signature effervescent style.
Besides diversifying the range in FKJ’s discography, Just Piano has been one of my favorite studying accompaniments recently. Check this album out if you need some added focus and new music for your study playlist! – Ann
