Walk the talk: Teachers beyond the classroom

To the typical student’s eye, the professor may simply be another face among many that they encounter day-to-day. Often confined to the classroom or the occasional greeting along the hallway, both parties can assume the traditional roles of master and pupil with hardly any deviation. But lest we forget, behind the faculty IDs and reams of papers are individuals with their own storiesstories which, under closer inspection, may inspire bravery, selflessness, and compassion.

In celebration of National Teachers’ Month this September, Vantage interviewed six professors who, like heroes in film and fiction, don their imaginary capes in the face of injustice and social unrest. These teachers go beyond the four walls of the classroom to tackle issues both on and off campus. Click the links below to learn more about these advocates and what they stand for.

Societal expectations for women in strength training extend beyond common sexist stereotypes, embedding […]

Queering the horror scene: How the community transformed its shadowy spaces

HORROR HAS always been queer. Since the genre’s conception, horror characters have long hidden their repressed selves behind the campy make-up of the supernatural. If the idea behind horror is about wanting to look at what you should not see, no one can relate more to the suppression of natural desires than the LGBTQIA+ community. […]
